First Solemn Mass - St. Anthony Parish

Woburn, MA, July 22, 1956

[with Fr. Joe's comments]

Fr. Henry Linse, CSS and myself; and the late Pastor of St. Anthony’s, Fr. John Prendergast. Fr. Linse is still alive, and presently the oldest man in the Stigmatine Province of the Holy Spouses.

Myself; Pastor, Fr. John Prendergast; and the Deacon Fr. Joseph Welch, CSS – who died a few years ago in Waltham. Fr. Welch was my teacher in Philosophy, before leaving for Rome, September 30, 1952 – a marvelous teacher of Thomism.

My widowed sister Alice [Mrs. Francis Tierney]; Msgr. Charles McInnis [old family friend]; my Mother, Elizabeth; myself; my Father, Judge Henchey; and Fr. Prendergast.

Msgr. McInnis; my Mother; my speech at the first Mass breakfast; my Dad, Fr. Prendergast; Msgr. Hugh Doyle [my Mother’s Cousin].

[It would take forever! – these are some of the priests who attended the first Mass and concelebrated].

My brother William and his wife Alyce [Kazlauskas]; myself; my Mother, Lisa Stinger; the first grandchild [Elizabeth, my sister Elizabeth’s daughter]; my Father; my brother James and my sister Alice; my sister Elizabeth and her husband, Dr. Richard Stenger.

My Father, my niece, Elizabeth [Lisa] Stenger.

My Mother receiving my first blessing – she died less than 5 years later, January 10, 1961.

My Uncle, Attorney James Henchey, my Father’s Brother.
